Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of nervous system disorders that affect a person’s ability to move and maintain balance. Cerebral Palsy occurs early in life and cannot be developed in adulthood. Many people also have related conditions such as intellectual disability, seizures, problems with vision, hearing and speech, changes in the spine or joint problems. The condition is non-progressive however, as a person ages, CP can cause new challenges and difficulties.
Hyperbaric therapy has been shown to help ameliorate the effects of CP. The affected brain tissue, or penumbra, can be recovered or improved by introducing increased levels of oxygen. It has also been shown to be a promising treatment with multiple studies reporting improvements with its application.
