Telomeres

Telomeres & Hyperbarics

Telomeres are a protein that protects the DNA information in the body. Our cells regenerate themselves constantly throughout our lives, but telomeres get shorter each time a cell replicates. When telomeres are too short it will cause premature cellular aging. At the cellular level, there are two key hallmarks of the aging process: shortening of telomere length and cellular senescence.

Telomere shortening is involved in all aspects of the aging process on a cellular level. Telomere length represents our biological age as opposed to our chronological age. Many scientific studies have shown a strong connection between short telomeres and cellular aging.

Telomere attrition (telomere shortening), limits the number of times our cells can divide, slowly leading to the dwindling population of cells within vital organs. Critically short telomeres are associated with several age-related diseases.

Hyperbaric therapy has been shown to help combat degenerative conditions by contributing to the regeneration of tissue and blood vessels and lengthen telomeres. It also stimulates angiogenesis in areas of the body where circulation is compromised.
